5.1.11

May's intention is Longevity.

It seems like an odd intention for the middle of the year. After all, by definition, "Longevity" means something that lasts for an extended period of time: a great career, a good run at something, an amazing life.

In fact, the latter is partially the reason I selected this intention for May.

My grandmother, Janice May, passed away on May 5th (Happy Cinco de Mayo!), and her most favorite color was light blue (the color of this month's candle). And, she lived a really, really good life.

Of course, her good life that I saw was the one she spent in retirement. Cruises with girlfriends, trips to the salon to frost her hair, General Hospital at 3 and a Manhattan with maraschino cherries every day at 5, her Buick, her laughter, her overall pleasure with life. It's simple really.

So it seemed fitting.

As such, this month will be about doing the things that help lead a really good, long life. It'll be a month of all kinds of intentions: joy, peace, health, love, balance; it'll be about celebrating people we love, friends and family alike; it'll be about food, about enjoying the "spice" of life; it'll be about adventure (like allowing strangers to remake the most important room in your house and put three days of your life on TV in the process); it'll be about creating a life we are proud to live, in this very moment, and in future moments.

And I do it in her memory.

  2. I love this month's intention. Thank you for the words you are freely, bravely putting out there for the rest of us to draw inspiration from!
