11.13.11

I could not be more excited to go to the doctor tomorrow and find out whether Will gets a brother or a sister.

Seriously.

I can't stop thinking about it!

But I shall put my excitement aside and apply it instead to this month's giveaways!

That's right--plural!

This is going to be like a poor man's Oprah's Favorite Things episode. It's going to be awesome.

So here's how it will work: every night this week (tonight through Thursday), I will be posting one of my favorite things. To win it, you just need to comment on that night's post about why you, too, love it. The winner will be announced the following evening, and I'll contact you for shipping information.

Tonight's Favorite Thing appeals to the mom and reader in me. Since I don't have time to read  myself, I take great pleasure in reading three books a night to Will (even if we get stuck in our rotation of the same ones for weeks at a time). So tonight's giveaway is three of my favorite books to read to Will (and they all have to do with love!):
I get slightly annoyed by saying "Little Nutbrown Hare" and "Big Nutbrown Hare" that they often get shortened to "Little Bunny" and "Big Bunny," but this book is mushy to a degree that I get goosebumps but no tears. Score.

A great book for moms and sons. Will likes it when the mom makes a mountain of hamburgers for her meat-eating dinosaur.

How can I resist, "I am your favorite book; you are my new lines. I am your night-light; you are my starshine."??? Love.

Maybe these are already a part of your library, or maybe you are ready to give all three a place on your bookshelf. Why do you love reading books to your kids?

  1. I have been reading Guess How Much I Love You for over 11 years! I started reading it to my belly before I knew Alec was Alec!
I have it in my classroom favorite books collection and read it to my middle school students! It is absolutely THE best book of all times BECAUSE a mother's love is never ending and beyond abundant!

  2. I love reading to my Bella because I, too-- do not have time to read (or maybe it's a lack of priorities.. I won't lie). My parents never ever read to me growing up.. so it's something I made sure to include in my child(ren)'s nighttime ritual. I think it's so important b/c many kids think reading is "boring" and don't ever grow to appreciate it. So many of my friends get "lost" in books and I've never done that, myself. So maybe she will? I just recently ordered two books for her for Christmas -- Chicka chicka boom boom(which is going to be her theme for her 5th b-day), and Where the Wild Things Are (loved this in school). We are slowly adding to her collection and this is my next diy project: http://pinterest.com/pin/229754018459691118/ or maybe this one http://pinterest.com/pin/519369253/ This I will make a priority! :)

  3. I grew up in a house where reading was BIG...in fact I used to do all of my chores during the week for an allowance of going to the bookstore on a Saturday morning to choose 2 or 3 new books, so I've also made it a huge priority in our routine. My favorite sounds are the little squeals when he sees his favorite books come out, and I just delight in the fact that he's started "reading" along. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, just wouldn't be the same without a cute little voice saying "Oh Noooooo!" and "Boom Boom" at all the right places! We've been late to day-care and work many mornings because he wanted to read just one more book. It sure is hard to argue with that!
